After moving to Seoul in the middle of the winter, the spring sunlight, blooming trees, and green grass have brought a much needed feeling of life into our world. Friendships are blooming as well, and I am so proud of our kids for thriving through another move! Although, Gabriel evidently has an imaginary dog I found out about after passing by his classroom window...(picture below)
As it's warmed up, we've enjoying exploring more of the neighborhoods and restaurants surrounding the post and hiking the trails up Namsun Mountain to Seoul Tower. I even got out with a friend to window shop Korean wholesale furniture and discover the Chinatown of Seoul. Jamil was traveling during spring break and Easter, so the kids and I took it easy at home, and I planned one day-long outing to the Science Museum. I felt very proud of myself for herding them all on the subway and finding our way to a new destination. This small adventure seemed so tedious on my own after a difficult move and transition, but it was just another mountain that now seems so small.
The Color Run, Month of the Military Child Festival, Glow Party, zoo field trip, and Field Day celebrations filled the season, and the kids ended the school year with Mother's Day, Father's Day, and patriotic performances. We cheered for the Rockies and the Pirates in the boys' first season of baseball and attended a professional soccer game in Seoul.
Gabriel used his own money to buy me some seriously hot pink nail polish from a store at school and so sweetly painted my nails himself on Mother's Day. Abraham has become an expert tree climber and has taken an interest in wingsuit flying. He even broke his second umbrella trying to fly off of the playground equipment. Mariam has perfected her crawl, begun to cruise along furniture, and our days are still simple but full with two naps to work around and big brothers to shuttle around. Her personality is blossoming with the season, and she continues to fill our home with joy!
A highlight this season has been the surprise of three large cherry blossom trees in our backyard and magnolia trees around the playground. Although they bloom for only a week or two, they brought so much beauty into our lives.
