I love a surprise! The day before our anniversary, Jamil told me to pack my bags. We were leaving in a matter of hours and heading somewhere close by for a couple of nights. You can imagine how excited I was when we pulled up to this hidden resort pictured below! Skhirat is the location of the attempted coup in 1972, and it is located about 20 minutes from Rabat. For our wedding anniversary, our neighbor Khalid used his connections to get us an ocean view room for two nights at the L'Ampithetre resort free of charge! This was a completely unexpected display of hospitality and another demonstration as to the importance of personal relationships. The resort is beautiful, and Skhirat beach is a popular surf spot since it is free of rocks.
A traditional 6th anniversary gift calls for something iron. We've been eyeing these lanterns (found all over Morocco) for the past 5 months. What better time to get them then now?
The pool man insisted that Gabriel needed these floaties.
Like with much other advice given regarding our children, we kindly gave it a try only to hand them back and say, "No, thank you".
I do realize that I said it was free of rocks in the intro... Evidently these huge things aren't in the water...
We walked through the lush gardens to one of the hotel's restaurants.
Happy 6th Anniversary!
He was determined to be careful....yeah. Fancy table settings and little boys just don't mix. Typically, neither do our anniversary dinners and children, but we celebrated nonetheless.
We were particularly excited for the entertainment that this restaurant advertised at 7:30 (8 is typically bedtime). After finishing our dinner shortly after 8, there was still no entertainment to be found. They insisted we stay and that the musicians would arrive soon. Just as we were walking out the door, two men showed up and gave a performance worth waiting for. Don't underestimate the power of two simple instruments and two beautiful voices.
Also, don't let that timid face fool you...
The stripped, orange blur is Gabriel warming up his dance moves!
Jamil is not a fan of Gabriel's break dancing. We encourage him to stay on his feet, but he prefers to thrust his body in every direction possible. Spectators typically encourage this behavior. As for poor Abey, he is such a trooper.
The hotel provided a babysitting service. We had the choice of dinner without the kids or a spa treatment without the kids. That was not a hard choice for us! However, catching this special photo was quite tricky.
How did we end our relaxing get away? With hot tea of course.
Shukran, Jamil! Je t'aime mon cheri!
